  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
  2. In a large saute pan, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add your sliced onion. Saute the onion over low-medium heat for 45-50 minutes, or until the onions have caramelized and turn a golden amber color.
  3. Remove from heat. In a large bowl, mix together the garlic, sour cream, mayonnaise, Parmesan cheese, Mozzarella cheese, salt and pepper. Add the caramelized onions, and mix until combined. Transfer to a casserole dish (we used a 1.5 liter Corningware dish and was a perfect fit).
  4. Bake at 400 degress for 30-35 minutes, or until bubbly and golden-brown.
