I promised you I had an ulterior motive for my Crispy Fried Pickles, and friends, I’m delivering on that promise. I have a serious obsession with pickles and I believe every perfect burger includes pickles. Be it relish, dill pickles, bread and butter pickles (mmmm…..), I just don’t discriminate. But, a burger indeed needs pickles.
Now, while I’m a fan of all of the above, my ultimate favorite is fried pickles. It just doesn’t get any better than that. So, who is to say that fried pickles can’t go on burgers? Friends, I introduce to you a sinfully delicious twist on a classic American cheeseburger: one topped with fried pickles. Yes, you heard right. And while those little treasures are amazing on their own, pair them with juicy bacon cheeseburger? Holy mother of batman. Now, get your toolbox (filled with cheese, bacon and all things delicious) because we are constructing one hell of a burger.
Grilled Cheeseburgers with Bacon and Fried Pickles:
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper
- 6 slices crispy bacon
- 6 slices American cheese
- 1 vine ripened tomato, sliced
- 1/4 red onion, sliced
- 2 pieces of hearts of romaine lettuce
- Crispy fried pickles
Alright – let’s first cook the bacon (yes, folks, priorities) so that it’s out of the way. So, cook it however your prefer (in the oven at 500 degrees for 15 minutes, or in a pan until crispy brown) and set aside.
Next, preheat your grill to about 400 degrees. Then season the beef with salt and pepper and add the Worcestershire sauce.
Next, form your patties. One pound should make about three large or four medium burgers.
In the meantime, slice your red onion and tomato.
Oh, and lather up that bun with some mayonnaise (sorry heart, but my stomach will be thanking me).
Then, pop your burgers on to your preheated grill.
Cook for about 8 to 10 minutes on each side – when they’re almost finished (as in, 30 seconds to a minute out), add the bacon and cheese (2 slices for each burger, same goes for the cheese). Let melt and remove from heat.
Yes, look at those beauties and all of their glory. Simply delicious. Okay, let’s begin construction.
Place your romaine on the bottom, followed by excessive amounts of condiments: I’m a ketchup on the bottom, mayo on the top kind of gal (actually, just a condiments everywhere in reality) so that’s how we did ours – but feel free to go wild and mix it up to your liking. And of course, top with your glorious fried pickles, tomato and onion.
Go forth, my friend. Dig on in. And while you’re at it – grab a beer, eh?
Cheers!
